John Caramanico, President of the O'Hara Alumni Association, will be presented with the inaugural Mark Cordes Impact Award. Caramanico will receive the award at the school's Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, October 20.
This award is presented in memory of Mark Cordes '74, a man filled with pride and dedication to Cardinal O'Hara High School who served tirelessly since the day he became a lion. His pride in O'Hara was evident in everything he did through football, his volunteer work and support of every initiative to make O'Hara a great place for current and future lions. Mark was known for the hours he spent creating a breathtaking atmosphere for the junior prom and the Mane Event, the poinsettia trees at O’Hara Family Christmas, the countless Santa gifts at O’Hara Family Christmas, the new letters at the East Entrance and much more. He also was an active member of the Hall of Fame committee and served as the Alumni Vice President for many years.
Caramanico receives this award for his years of dedication to the school as Alumni Association president, as a Board member, as an alum, as a parent of five graduates, as golf coach and as a proponent for O'Hara in the community. John can often be seen volunteering and running events like the annual golf outing, the alumni fair, the all class reunion and a host of other events that showcase alumni pride in O'Hara's rich 55 year history.
"It is with great pride that we honor John Caramanico with the very first Mark Cordes Impact Award," reflects O'Hara President Jay DeFruscio. "John has been a cornerstone of O'Hara for decades and his tireless work on behalf of our students, alumni and school has played an integral role in shaping our traditions and our history. There is no greater tribute to either man than this--two great alumni who embody the heart and soul of 'lions for life.' God bless them both!"
