How do we serve?

Help the economically disadvantaged with programs such as The Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive to fill neighborhood food cupboards, the Souper Bowl of Caring, a national program to tackle hunger in America, by serving a hot meal to feed the homeless…under the EL in Kensington, and by sponsoring an Empty Bowls Program on campus to raise money to feed the homeless, and by participating in the St. John’s Hospice Casserole Program and providing 85 frozen casseroles to provide a meal for 300 homeless men.

Reach out to children in the community– “adopt” a child at Christmas and purchase gifts for that child, Easter Boxes for Children, and Cradles for Crayons which provides socks and underwear for children 1-12

Act as a link between the school and the outside community by volunteering at the PA Special Olympics at Villanova University in the Fall, by serving a Thanksgiving Dinner to the Don Guanella and Divine Providence residents on Thanksgiving Day, by sponsoring a festive St. Patrick’s Day Party for the residents of Don Guanella and Divine Providence, by preparing and serving breakfast to the residents of the Ronald MacDonald House and their families, by sorting and packaging supplemental food items at the Philabundance Hunger Relief Center, and by assisting at the Goalball Tournament at Overbrook School for the Blind as goal judges and line judges

Reach out to the local community-at-large during the holiday season with the Thanksgiving Dinner Program which provides dinners for 75 families, and with Operation Santa Claus which provides Christmas gifts for over 300 children

Provide multi-cultural opportunities and develop a spirit of Christian community by active participation in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Service Program, by sponsoring a Breakfast with Santa for the Spanish Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, by working with the Office of Black Catholics on various projects, by participating in the African Library Project and providing 1200 books to start a primary school library in Malawi 

Programs for persons with disabilities, such as the Don Guanella Whiffle Ball Tournament in the school gym during the month of May, the Don Guanella and Divine Providence Fun Day, a day of dancing and carnival games
