About DHDM and CSC

Danny Hammond Dance Marathon:

Continue to "Spread Danny's Smile!"

In 2015, Jeremy Fratoni ‘16  brought the idea of a dance marathon to Cardinal O’Hara High School. Jeremy wanted to help those in need, get the school involved, and have fun while doing it. Soon, Cardinal O’Hara’s dance marathon became a staple in the community. Since our first dance marathon in 2015, we have continued to fundraise, dance, and come together as a school for great causes. What makes our dance marathon stand out amongst others is our name: Danny Hammond Dance Marathon.

Danny Hammond was a student at Cardinal O’Hara and was a member of the class of 2010. Danny was only nine years old when he was first diagnosed with cancer. Over the next several years, his cancer would return two more times. Danny passed away on February 20, 2014. Even during his battles with cancer, the most important thing to Danny was helping others. Danny reached out to those in need through Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Penn State’s THON, and CHOP. Danny was a charismatic and funny kid that people loved to talk with. Danny once said, “Throughout all this the most important lessons I've learned is humor, living life to its fullest and to help others along the way.”

This is what DHDM does. We continue to spread Danny’s message of happiness and compassion for others. Since its beginning in 2015, DHDM has been able to support many charities. Currently DHDM supports Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities Appeal, Bringing Hope Home, HEADstrong Foundation, Alex's Lemonade and National Pediatric Cancer Foundation through Lions Philanthropy at Cardinal O’Hara. Our fundraising efforts are collected in one fund throughout the year and disbursed to the groups mentioned above.

The goal of DHDM is to bring Danny’s vision of helping others to its highest capacity. Every person who is involved can and will make a difference to someone who truly needs it. According to Danny, “There's always someone fighting sometimes even a bigger battle than you.” Use this link to donate and support those in need.

All students are invited and encourage to join Lion's Philanthropy/DHDM at COHS. For questions, reach out to one of the advisors or students on the Leadership Team.

Community Service Corps:

The mission of the Cardinal O’Hara Community Service Corps (CSC) is to give young people a vehicle by which they can serve their neighborhoods in ways appropriate to age and within the context of the Church. The CSC provides a means of actual involvement for young people, where, as a group, they put their faith into action through service. Members of the CSC will come to understand that through their individual actions they make a positive difference in the lives of others and make the world a better place in which to live.

While the specific objectives of the CSC are as varied as the individual programs it sponsors, the overall goals are primarily:

  • To foster self growth and self discovery of teens and show that God loves them and has a plan to work through them to show His love for others
  • To provide members with opportunities to help others, especially children, the poor, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and the homeless
  • To develop a spirit of Christian community
  • To provide multi-cultural opportunities
  • To encourage members to accept their responsibilities as leaders and servers in the Church and civic community
