Fall and Spring Musical
The O'Hara Theater program produces two, full length, broadway musicals every year. Within each of these productions the students explore all aspects of theater, both on stage and off. Students who perform on stage have the opportunity to learn new acting techniques, improve their singing and dancing abilities and work as an ensemble. Each production features a live student orchestra. Instrumentalists participating in the orchestra have the opportunity to work alongside professional musicians and play a broadway level score. Those students who wish to remain behind the scenes are welcome to join the O'Hara Stage Crew. While on Stage Crew, students learn about the various elements of technical theater, such as set construction, scenic painting, lights, sound, and so much more. Newer and flourishing opportunities include the Cappies Critics program and Marketing team.
It is the mission of the O'Hara Theater program to provide its students the opportunity to practice the various elements of theater in a challenging, yet nurturing environment. Not only will they learn the expectations demanded in professional theater, but they will more importantly learn commitment, collaboration, communication, and confidence.
The fall production always opens the Friday after Thanksgiving and typically auditions within the second week back to school.
The spring production usually runs the two weeks prior to Easter and auditions are the first week back from Christmas break.
May is when the Greater Philadelphia Cappies Gala is held. This past year, O’Hara was nominated in 12 different categories including Best Musical.
