The Cardinal O'Hara Golf Classic, which is hosted by the Cardinal O'Hara Alumni Association and named for the association's founder Bob McCaffrey, brings Cardinal O'Hara alumni, families and friends together for a day of great golf and camaraderie. Proceeds finance programs and initiatives that fulfill O'Hara's mission to develop students of character, competence and confidence.

About Bob McCaffrey ’68

In 1993, with the support of Bishop Joseph McFadden, Bob became the first president of the newly organized Cardinal O’Hara Alumni Association. Under Bob’s guidance and direction, exciting events began to take place at O’Hara. An avid golfer, he was instrumental in organizing the alumni golf outing. He helped begin the tradition of celebrating an “O’Hara Family Christmas” with a beautiful Mass, fire truck parade, Santa Claus, and a concert performed by the O’Hara Band. Bob was also instrumental in bringing back the O’Hara Communion Breakfast and Hall of Fame Dinner, and he started the wildly popular All-Class Reunion, first at the Lagoon, and then down the shore. Bob served as President of the Alumni Association for 15 years.

Bob McCaffrey’s passing on July 4th, 2009, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer, was an enormous loss for his wife of 38 years Barbara Rolls McCaffrey ’68, his daughters Michelle ’89 and Danielle ’94, and the entire O’Hara community.

We are honored and proud to dedicate our annual golf classic to the memory of our founder and friend, Bob McCaffrey.
