Statement from Cardinal O'Hara High School

December 17, 2018

Dear Cardinal O’Hara Parents and Guardians,

We are writing regarding a school safety matter. Earlier today, school administrators received information that a bomb threat against the O’Hara campus was made. We immediately contacted the Marple Township Police Department and law enforcement responded swiftly.

Due to the serious nature of this matter, the school was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution and all standard lockdown procedures were followed. The Marple Township Police Department cleared the building and O’Hara students were taken to the football stadium adjacent to the building as we conducted role call and made sure all students were present and accounted for.  A thorough search of the building is in process.  Per law enforcement students will be dismissed immediately via the gymnasium, no other area of the building will be open during dismissal.  A decision related to tomorrow’s school day will be relayed to you as soon as possible.

Please be assured that the safety and security of your sons and daughters is our top priority. We take any report of a threat to our school community seriously. Thankfully, no one was harmed in any way. Incidents such as this demonstrate the importance of our entire school community working together to maintain a safe environment. We encourage you to speak with your children about this matter and to remind them that they should always report any suspicious activity immediately.

We are cooperating with the Marple Township Police as they can continue their investigation. We are extremely grateful for their assistance.

Be assured of our continued prayers for you and your families during this Advent season.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jay DeFruscio                             Mrs. Eileen Vice
