Program Information

What Distinguishes a CSP Class?

CSP classes use the Chesterton Scholars Network curriculum for Literature, Theology, and Philosophy courses. Rather than merely reading excerpts from classical texts, CSP students have the opportunity to read entire texts and annotate them. By developing a deeper understanding of their readings, students are able to participate in Socratic dialogue during class discussions.

CSP Philosophy I: Introduction to Philosophy (Required elective either junior or senior year)

The Socratic Method

Students of the Chesterton Scholars Program use the Socratic Method to engage in meaningful discussions about foundational truths. This form of active learning forces students to engage in classroom activities. Students are pushed to refine how they think by evaluating the beliefs of others and their own. The Socratic Method allows students to develop high-level critical thinking skills, turning them into engaged thinkers that are prepared to lead.
