Optional O'Hara Golf Shirt
O'Hara golf shirts are available as part of the warm weather dress uniform. The cost is $25.00. Shirts
in either white or blue are available only in the discipline office. No other type of shirt may be worn
with the optional golf shirt. They will be sold the first full week of school during lunch periods.
Checks for these golf shirts should be made out to Cardinal O'Hara High School.
(Please note: No other company is authorized to sell O'Hara golf shirts. The school seal is not
permitted to be duplicated by any company without the expressed permission of the school.)
School Fee
The fee of $200.00 ($275.00 for seniors) must be paid before a roster will be sent. This fee, along
with the fall and winter fund raisers, help to fund in part student related services, activities and
athletics. The school fee is not refundable after it has been paid and the school year has started.

School Bus Transportation
Some school districts include schedules and procedures with bus passes that they mail directly to
students in that district. Other districts do not mail their passes but publish transportation
information in the local newspapers. If you have any questions about public school district busing,
call your local public school district office.

Math Department
Students learn best if they are active participants in the learning process. Technology allows today's
Mathematics classroom to become a laboratory where students explore and experiment with mathematical
concepts rather than just memorize isolated concepts. Students make generalizations and reach conclusions
about mathematical concepts and relationships and apply them to real life situations. Therefore, at the
present time, all mathematic students are required to own and use a graphics calculator. We strongly
recommend the TI-85.
Students are encouraged to give to their teacher or mail to Mrs. Dugan the Proof of Purchase that is located on
the back of the box. The school is able to procure free equipment from Texas Instrument with these POPs.
Students registered for PreCalculus Track 1 or AP, and AP Statistics have a summer assignment. It was given out
during the last week of school. Copies of these assignments can be obtained from the O'Hara Website.

Smoking Policy
Smoking is not permitted within the school building or on school property, before, during or after school.
To avoid any unnecessary discussion, any student in possession of tobacco products including pipes, papers,
matches, and lighters will, as will any student(s) in his or her company be charged with smoking.
This includes those students who act as "lookouts" or warn other students that a faculty member or
administrator is approaching.
All articles considered contraband will be confiscated.
Violators of the no smoking rule are required to schedule a parent interview and a $25.00 fine will be
levied for the first offense, a $50.00 fine for the second offense and so on. The fine will be returned if
a stop-smoking class is taken successfully.

Parents as Substitutes
Please give some thought to the concept of being a substitute at O'Hara. You would be asked to be present
in the classroom to take attendance and to monitor the class while students work on the absent teacher's assignment.
We will provide you with the necessary training before you would go into the classroom. If you are interested, please
contact the principal's office.

Preparation Tips for Parent-Teacher Interview
- Be aware of what a teacher's expectation level is for this class. Most teachers give a course
profile out on "Back to School Night" held in September.
- Ask your child if all assignments have been completed and handed in on time.
- Ask your child for all test, quiz, written homework, class or group assignment, seat work, lab,
notebook and project grades. (Nothing a teacher tells you at an interview should come as a surprise to you.)
- Ask your child if they understand how a quarter grade is determined by the teacher.
At the Conference
- Ask the teacher if all your child's assignments have been completed and handed in on time.
- Compare information with the teacher about the grades for tests, quizzes and so forth.
- Ask the teacher exactly how the quarter grade was determined.
- Make sure all your questions are answered before you leave the interview - bring a list of questions with you if necessary.
- You are encouraged to bring your child to the conference especially if your child is not doing well in a particular subject.
Remember:
Parent-Teacher Conferences are an opportunity for an exchange of information between parent
and teacher to benefit the student.
