Class Information & Procedures for All Classes
PLEASE NOTE:You are responsible for all handouts, worksheets and study guides given out in class. If you need another copy, you must let me know at least 48 hours in advance. Last minute requests cannot be honored.
Behavior
All schools rules will be enforced. IDs must be worn and visible, no gum chewing, no food and no drinks. While we may be using devices such as cell phones or tablet PCs in class, they are to remain out of sight and silent until I say they can be used.
I expect students to adhere to the conventions of acceptable classroom behavior and to act as responsible adults. Your cooperation is EXPECTED at all times.
All students are expected to treat each other with respect and to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude that is open to learning and to opinions they may disagree with or not share.
Profane language is offensive to most people, and is both unprofessional and unacceptable. This includes ANY inappropriate comments, jokes, or questions that another student may find offensive. Bottom line- if I hear something offensive, you will be disciplined for it. Think before you speak.
Common courtesy is always expected – like waiting for another person to finish, raising your hand if you have a comment, and refraining from chatting with others while someone else is speaking, or asking inappropriate or involved questions that have nothing to do with the topic of discussion. Calling out will not be tolerated.
Lateness
Class begins at the time listed on the schedule. I expect students to be in class and ready to begin at that time. Tardiness is distracting to me and other students. If you are late, you must go down to Student Services and get a pass in order to enter my classroom.
Sleeping
Sleeping in class is prohibited and heads must be up off the desk at all times. Points will be deducted from your final grade and parents will be contacted if this rule is violated. NO EXCEPTIONS and no warnings will be given. I expect students to be mentally involved as well as physically present in the course.
Assignments
Students are responsible for handing in their assignments in class and by the due dates given. You must getmy approval prior to emailing me an assignment. After which, it is YOUR responsibility to check and see if I received it. Don’t use the excuse that you emailed it to me- if I don’t have it by the due date, then it is late. Make sure you contact me in advance if there are any circumstances that will prevent you from getting an assignment in on time. Using Dropbox should eliminate any obstacles that would prevent you from getting an assignment in on time to me. You are responsible for getting a printed copy to me that matches what you uploaded to me within 24 hours.
Questions, Concerns, Issues, etc.
Students are responsible for their education and are expected and encouraged to communicate with me if they have any questions or concerns about their classes. I take your education seriously and I am here to help whenever I can. Do not wait until the last-minute to contact me if there is a problem! Email is the best method for me and I typically make myself available online until 8:30-9:00 PM. Please understand that certain everyday circumstances may occur that could cause a delay in my getting back to you in a timely manner. Your patience is appreciated.
Make-up Expectations Due to Absences
Students will have equal class time that was missed to make up any missed tests, quizzes or assignments. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the missing grade. Any late assignments will be penalized a letter grade per day late.
After four days late, the highest possible grade is half credit. Special arrangements can be made for extended absences. Students who are in attendance and do not complete class assignments cannot make them up at a later date and will receive a zero for the missing assignment(s). Do not procrastinate with make-up work.
Tests and Quizzes Policy
Quizzes may be given at any time; however, tests will be announced at least two days in advance. Expect to follow all scheduled test dates. If a student is absent the day before a test, he/she will still be expected to take the test on the announced day. Test will be made up on the day you return to school unless there is a legitimate reason, which is determined by me.
Testing days are Day 2 and Day 5.
Cheating/ Plagiarism
Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses and will not be tolerated. Any student who is found to be cheating on homework, a quiz or a test shall receive a failing grade or zero, shall forfeit the right to make-up the assignment, quiz or test, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook. Additionally, any classroom material submitted for evaluation determined to be plagiarized shall be given a failing grade or zero, shall forfeit the right to make-up the assignment, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook.
My classroom will be a positive, learning environment where mutual respect and tolerance are the norm. Actions otherwise will be dealt with severely. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
