Weather Guidelines

If weather conditions appear serious enough to cause school to be closed or to open late, please observe the following:

  • Listen to KYW radio (1060 AM) after 6:00 am for school closings or check the website.

  • If you follow us on Twitter, it will be posted there as well. You can follow us @cardinalohara

  • O'Hara's number is 459.

  • Because of the dependence of so many O'Hara students on bus transportation from the local school districts, it is essential that students listen for the code number of their school district concerning transportation.

  • If the public school district is opening one or two hours late, all bus runs usually operate one or two hours later than the regularly scheduled time.

  • If the public school district closes, bus transportation is usually not available for Vo-Tech or O'Hara students.

If O'Hara is open, even if it is opening one or two hours late, faculty and students will have access to the building by 7:15 a.m. as usual.  For transportation, students will be dependent on the decision of the school district in which they live.  For example, if O'Hara is opening on time, but the district is one hour late, the buses will generally be one hour late.  On the other hand, if O'Hara is opening one hour late, but the district is opening on time, the buses will try to follow their regular schedules.  If the district does not provide transportation due to weather, every effort must be made to bring the students to school.  On days when O'Hara opens late, a special class schedule for the day will be announced during homeroom.

During weather emergencies the school staff is trying to communicate with the public school districts to make the proper decision for O'Hara, and if the decision is made to open school, they are trying to provide for an instructional day.  Therefore, they are not generally available to answer telephone inquiries as to whether school is open or not.  The latest information is always available on School district closing numbers are listed below.  These numbers are announced on the radio.
