Band and Color Guard
Band at Cardinal O'Hara High School is a "major" subject, meaning that students receive a grade for participation in the program. It is a class on the roster, just like English, Math, or History. There are individual instrumental lessons worked into the curriculum. We offer instruments in the Brass, Percussion, and Woodwind families. Band students have the opportunity to perform is smaller ensembles such as Jazz Band, Saxophone Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. Some of our musicians perform in the pit orchestra for the school musicals.
The Band and Guard perform together for football games in the fall as a marching band. The Band kicks off marching band season in August at band camp to learn the halftime show that is performed at the varsity football games. After marching band season concert band and indoor guard rehearse for the Christmas and Spring Concerts, trips, competitions and other peformances. Indoor Guard participates in competitions in the tri-state area in the TOB circuit. The Marching Band also represents Cardinal O’Hara in the Springfield and Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parades and at Phillies Opening Day in the spring. Every other year we travel. In years past we have gone to Boston, Williamsburg, and Annapolis.
